Substance Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP)

  • Advocacy and referral to community agencies for youth and families with substance abuse issues
  • Community presentations and education

SAIP services are provided at no charge to program participants

SAIP is a Family Violence Prevention Services program funded by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCADA). The purpose is to identify and recruit high-risk youth between the ages of 14 and 17 for a 12-week program consisting of group, individual and family counseling and community activities.

SAIP uses a curriculum called Reconnecting Youth (RY) that was developed for at-risk high school students. The goals of RY are to:

  • Increase School Performance
  • Increase Drug Use Control
  • Increase Mood Management

Enrollment Criteria:
(One of the following factors)
  • Substance Abuse
  • Family or Related Violence
  • Poor School Performance
  • Truancy
  • Probationary Status

10 Warning Signs of Substance Abuse:
  • A sudden change in personality
  • Changes in relationships
  • History of substance abuse in the family
  • Trouble with the police
  • Problems at school
  • Secretive behavior, dishonesty and lying
  • Changes in appetite, sleep, habits or appearance
  • Rebelliousness or violent behavior
  • Drug use among friends
  • Finding drug paraphernalia
