Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. offers a variety of volunteer opportunities ranging from direct client services to indirect services. The following is a listing of all current volunteer opportunities and their requirements.
Volunteers needed in the following three areas:
Battered Women's Shelter - Nursery - Weekdays 9-11 or 1-4
Battered Women's Shelter - Kitchen - Weekdays 9-11 or 2-4
Counseling Center - Childcare - Weekday Evenings 5:30 - 8:30
Direct Service Opportunities: These volunteer opportunities provide direct service to Family Violence Prevention Services clients, friends, and families.
Shelter Assistant
Our shelter provides 24-hour care, service and protection for residentsVolunteer Services: Assist residents with daily needs, attend to immediate needs of new residents upon arrival, prepare meals, distribute and regulate supplies, answer phones, childcare, clean rooms, handle crisis calls, and complete intake forms.
Qualifications: Flexible and able to multi-task. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required. Patient, kind hearted, open-minded and able to stay cool under pressure.
Training: Orientation, background check and Shelter Training
Shelter Meals Assistant
Our shelter provides 24-hour care, service and protection for residents. Monday through Friday we prepare and serve three meals a day for an average of 40 children and 20 moms.Volunteer Services: Assist kitchen staff with daily needs, prepare and serve meals.
Qualifications: Available weekdays. Shifts are Lunch 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and Dinner 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Flexible and able to stay cool under pressure. No kitchen experience needed. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required.
Training: Orientation, background check and Shelter Training
Shelter Babysitter
Morning and after school babysitters are needed for children of all ages
Volunteer Services: Nurture children while moms attend to on-site duties or educational workshops.
Qualifications: Available weekdays. Shifts are Mornings 8:00 am ~ 12:00 noon and After School 2:00 pm ~ 6:00 pm. Flexible and able to multi-task. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required. Patient, kind hearted, open-minded.
Training: Orientation, background check and Shelter Training
Child Care Provider
Volunteer Services: Assist in organizing activities, monitoring children, and provides a safe environment.
Qualifications: Available Monday through Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required. A love of children and their best interests, some light lifting.
Training: Orientation, background check and Childcare Training
Indirect Service Opportunities: These volunteer opportunities do not include direct contact with people receiving Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. services.
Donation Center
Our donation area accepts gifts from the community such as clothes, toys, books, linens, and household items. We rely strictly on volunteers to sort, organize, and distribute our donations. Student, community and other service groups are welcome.NO ORIENTATION REQUIRED.
Volunteer Services: Accepting, sorting, organizing and distributing donated items.
Qualifications: Available Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Light lifting required.
Training: Orientation by Donation Center Manager
Substance Abuse Intervention Program Counselor Assistant
Family Violence Prevention Services operates many programs and support services available to women, children, teens and men healing from domestic violence. Teens at risk are the focus of S.A.I.P.Volunteer Services: Telephone follow-ups on teenage counseling clients that have recently completed the program. Help counselors with reports, organizing and updating databases and other office projects.
Qualifications: Available Monday - Friday, 10 to 3. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required.
Training: Orientation plus S.A.I.P. Program training
Administration Assistant
Help Family Violence Prevention Services offices with copying, mailing, organizing, updating databases, and other office projects.Qualifications: Multi-tasking individual that can work alone or with others. Office, computer, and people skills helpful. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required.
Training: Orientation and training as needed
Community Education & Special Events
Our agency participates in approximately 50 fairs per year. Educate the public on domestic violence issues by setting up and staffing Family Violence Prevention Services information booths at health fairs, festivals, and community events.Volunteer Services: May include transporting agency display to/from fair, set up and tear down of display and distributing information.
Qualifications: Typically 2-3 hour shifts. A flexible schedule, reliable transportation, liability insurance, light lifting, and ability to carry display. Bilingual~Spanish preferred but not required. Must enjoy talking to people.
