Nelda Benninger and Rosie Castro
Nelda Benninger is recognized for her service and contributions to Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. At an early age, Mrs. Benninger's mother taught her the rewards of generosity. And today, she acts on her early lessons of holding one's possessions with open hands, for one is able to receive more blessings from God when one's hands are open.
Rosie Castro is not only a political activist who sought change for civil rights and women, she is also a tireless advocate for education for those minorities who are less likely to have access to a college degree. As a single mother, she instilled these values in her twin sons, San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro and Texas State Representative Joaquin Castro, who now lead our community with the same passion and determination they learned from their mother.
SPECIAL TRIBUTES TO: Ruth Bowers Family and Bonnie Ellison Family
Featured Speaker: Denise Brown, renowned speaker and advocate for ending domestic violence, founded the Nicole Brown Foundation in honor of her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson.
Honoring Mothers 2010 Luncheon was presented by Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc., and the Battered Women and Children's Shelter of San Antonio. Two-thirds of all residents in shelter are children. Your generosity helps provide emergency services, including protective shelter, transportation, meals, counseling and more.
