VIOLENCE INTERVENTION PROGRAM (VIP)

GetHelpViolence

FVPS's Violence Intervention Program is accredited by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is group counseling for male perpetrators of domestic abuse and family violence, which uses a psycho-educational modality. The curriculum for the program utilizes a variety of topics designed to address different aspects of family violence and abuse. The program emphasizes taking responsibility for personal choices, and being held accountable for them, as well as the recognition and elimination of power and control by perpetrators of domestic abuse.
The VIP program is the only state-accredited program in San Antonio. To enter the program clients should contact VIP to set up an appointment for the registration/orientation and intake session. The cost for this session is $25 and will take approximately 2 hours to complete. During the session the client will fill out paperwork and have an individual session with a counselor. The client will be oriented to the program, will choose a day and time to attend his group sessions, and will schedule the start date for his first group session. The group members attend 1 session per week for a total of 20 group sessions. Each group session is 2 hours long and the cost for each session is $10.

The Battering Intervention and Prevention Project (BIPP) ensures compliance with guidelines established by a department of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The Community Justice Assistance Division (CJAD) in conjunction with the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) has defined a set of requirements for the operation of BIPP compliant programs. The purpose of the Battering Intervention and Prevention Project (BIPP) is to establish rules for providers so we may adhere to a uniform standard of service to our clients.

There are currently 33 guidelines designed to assist BIPP programs in promoting:
  • Victim safety and encouraging community involvement
  • Providing effective strategies for battering intervention
  • Encouraging statewide communication among BIPP Service providers
  • Holding batterers accountable to the community for their behaviors
  • Apprising the public of available resources and services
  • Developing relationships with the judicial system
  • Promoting community awareness to the extent of the impact of domestic and family violence within our community
  • Helping victims of DV access services and resources
  • Providing information about the limitations of BIPP programs, their content, the dangers and risks to victims, and limits to confidentiality
  • Address personal responsibility in a culturally sensitive manner, and assist in fostering change
