FVPS Court Liaison Program



Mission

CourtroomThe Court Liaison will work with the Bexar County Court system to ensure victims of domestic violence and abuse receive intervention and service.

Why was this Office established?

The Court Liaison Office located within the Courthouse was established as a referral source for the individual Civil District Courts, the Children’s Courts, the Child Support Courts and the Family Drug Courts.

It has been noted that many cases present with domestic violence as an underlying issue, therefore, the primary objective is to provide the Bexar County Courts with immediate access to services for these individuals and families.

The Court Liaison also serves the Staff Attorney’s Office, Child Protective Services, the Domestic Relations Office, private attorneys and the general public who visit the Courthouse daily.

Who is eligible to receive services?

Any individual who has experienced or been victimized by domestic violence and abuse is eligible to receive services.

What services are available?

Individuals referred to the Court Liaison are eligible to receive immediate on-site assessments for the appropriateness of a referral for services related to family violence.

The individuals, in most cases, will leave the office with an appointment and all information needed to insure that a successful referral has been completed. In many instances, the Court Liaison remains the point of contact for the individuals throughout the referral process.


What types of referrals can an individual receive?

FVPS offers a wide array of supportive and therapeutic programs, all of which are designed to bring about lasting change in individuals struggling with domestic violence related challenges. Referrals can be made for the following services:
  • Battered Women and Children’s Shelter
  • Pro bono legal services
  • Individual counseling for teens and adult victims/survivors of domestic violence
  • Play therapy for child victims/survivors of domestic violence
  • CPS Group for women mandated by Child Protective Services
  • Women’s Support Group
  • Violence Intervention Program for males and females
  • Substance Abuse Intervention Program for adults and juveniles
  • Juvenile Aggression Management Program
  • Parenting
  • Community Based Counseling
  • GED Program
  • Transitional Housing Program
  • Helping Children Cope with Divorce

What other services can the Court Liaison provide?

The Court Liaison Office, with its close proximity to the Courts, allows the Court Liaison to be in the Courtrooms on a daily basis when issues of domestic violence and or abuse surface. It also makes it possible for the Court Liaison to accompany clients to Court and provide translation services as needed.

In keeping with the FVPS philosophy of educating the community about the issue of domestic violence and abuse, the Court Liaison Office has educational materials readily available for professionals and any individuals visiting the Courthouse. Additionally, the Court Liaison is available to present the program to anyone wishing to learn more about domestic violence/abuse and the services that FVPS provides.
