Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

How much of a commitment do I have to make?

A volunteer commitment means that you agree to give the required amount of hours (8) per month for that program for at least six (6) consecutive months following orientation, however there is no time commitment in our Donation Center.

Do I have to schedule a screening interview before attending orientation?

YES. A screening interview is mandatory before orientation. This screening interview is designed to help us get to know each other and help determine if Family Violence Prevention Services is an appropriate place for you to volunteer.

How do I schedule a screening interview?

Call our Volunteer Coordinator - Melissa Schulz, at (210) 930-3669.

Do I have to attend an orientation before a training session?

Yes, except in our Donation Center. The orientation provides a concise overview of the Dynamics of Domestic Violence, Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc., and the activities in which volunteers are involved.

What do I do if I cannot attend orientation?

If you have completed a screening interview and you miss orientation, your name will automatically be placed on the next orientation invitee list and a reminder card will be sent to you.

How do I get an application?

Applications, character reference forms, and criminal background checks are provided at the time of your screening interview. They should be returned no earlier than the day of orientation.

My group wants to volunteer - do we all have to attend orientation?

Organized groups that wish to volunteer do not need to attend an orientation. A completed event form is required. We ask that you call Melissa Schulz (930-3669) to determine a suitable volunteer activity for your group.
